Prescribed Fire Season Approaching

San Carlos Ranger District Planning Black Mountain Prescribed Burns

As cooler damper weather approaches the Pike and San Isabel National Forests are calling attention to some planned prescribed fire projects. As weather and fire behavior permit, the Forest Service will return to the Black Mountain area on the San Carlos Ranger District. The Forest Service routinely conducts prescribed burns there to keep frequent, low-intensity fire as a part of the forest ecosystem. The maps below show the general project area and the specific burn unit boundaries. The Forest Service will update this site as specific burn dates are determined and operations proceed.
