  May Fire

  • Location: 6 miles West of Fort Carson, CO.  El Paso County,  Pikes Peak Ranger District
  • Jurisdiction: US Forest Service
  • Resources: Resources from US Forest Service, Colorado Department of Fire Prevention and Control (DFPC), Hwy 115 Fire Protection District, Ft Carson FD
  • Containment: 0%

  • Structures ThreatenedThere are structures to the south of the fire. The fire is smoldering and creeping, hazard potential to structures is low.

  • Fuels: Douglas Fir and mix conifer

Update 7/25/2023 12:30 pm: Crews have completed a saw line around the perimeter of the fire. Firefighters will continue securing the fires edge and proceeding with mop up efforts, some interior heat is present but little to no smoke is visible. The May Fire remains at .25 acre. 

Update 7/25/2023 10:00 am:  There was no growth to the fire overnight, fire crews are making their way into the incident and will continue with suppressions efforts on the May Fire.  

Update 7/24/2023 6 pm: A DFPC helicopter is assisting firefighters with bucket drops of water, cooling the fire while firefighters continue to hike into the remote location of the fire. Crews will continue to utilize the helicopter to support their suppression efforts this evening as daylight allows. The Incident Commander of the May Fire and the US Forest Service would like to thank DFPC, Hwy 115 Fire Protection District, and Ft Carson Fire for their quick mutual aid response.

  • Jurisdiction: US Forest Service
  • Resources:  US Forest Service engines and crews have not accessed the fire due to the rugged terrain and time of day. They will resume suppression efforts tomorrow in the morning.
